It has been created by Bernini and it is considered one of the most beautiful squares in the world. At the top of the square stands St. Peter’s Basilica, the Christendom’s most magnificent church, begun in 1452 on the site where St. Peter was buried. Throughout the following 200 years, such Renaissance masters as Bramante, Michelangelo, Raphael and Bernini worked on its design and created an unparalleled masterpiece. Of special note are Michelangelo’s Pietà and the bronze canopy over the high altar by Bernini. The immense dome was designed by Michelangelo.
After visiting St. Peter’s area you will be guided past Castel Sant’Angelo to Navona Square (stop for lunch on your own), and you will then visit the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. Free time for shopping or photos.
A deluxe coach will be waiting near Piazza Del Popolo to drive you back to San Peter’s Station.
Your tour ends with a drive to St. Peter’s Station where Roma express will take you back to Civitavecchia. A courtesy service may be offered on board under request.
